Refrigerant gas R290
Gas R290 (propane for refrigeration) is an HC hydrocarbon belonging to the series of saturated linear alkanes; hydrocarbons are refrigerants composed exclusively of carbon and hydrogen atoms. These compounds are already naturally present in the atmosphere and therefore do not represent a risk from an environmental point of view (greenhouse effect and ozone damage).

Description

Gas R290
Gas R290 (propane for refrigeration) is an HC hydrocarbon belonging to the series of saturated linear alkanes; hydrocarbons are refrigerants composed exclusively of carbon and hydrogen atoms. These compounds are already naturally present in the atmosphere and therefore do not represent a risk from an environmental point of view (greenhouse effect and ozone damage).

Gas R290, like all hydrocarbons, is a highly flammable gas (class A3), and its safety implications must therefore be appropriately considered in the storage, transport and handling phase; the charge of propane in “plug-in” type refrigeration systems (eg refrigerated counters and refrigerated display cases) is in fact limited to a maximum of 150 grams.

The gas requires the use of mineral oils in the compressors of the refrigeration units, which allows you to avoid the humidity problems associated with the use of synthetic lubricants.

Applications

  • commercial refrigeration (positive temperature systems)
  • industrial plants (negative temperature systems)
